Two sources are available here on the city website to allow you to follow the progress of the Charter Commission: The minutes of our meetings are posted. Initially, these will be fairly brief. Some charter issues are more easily agreed upon than others; for example, we know that we will have a fire department and police department. In the early stages of this process, we are trying to work through these more obvious articles first, and are saving some of the more difficult discussions and decisions for later. When we have a lengthy discussion of an article, we will attempt to include the basic concerns raised during the discussion in the minutes to reflect the more complex issues. The working document is also posted. Some articles in this document are marked as pending further discussion; these are the more complicated points that we will work on later. This allows us the opportunity to give additional thought to the difficult decisions, and to do research into how such issues are handled in neighboring communities. Items appearing on the working document have been approved by the commission, but as we continue to work, it is possible that we will find that we need to revisit some earlier issues. We are attempting to keep the public informed of this process as it proceeds. Citizens of Mt. Healthy are welcome to observe the Charter Commission meetings, which follow the City Council meetings. |
